Our Story

We, Dr. Michelle and Dr. Adam, knew early on in our chiropractic education that we wanted to serve kids and families. This deep understanding was reinforced when we started our own family. Cohen, born in 2021, and Decklen, born in 2023, were both born naturally in our home, without any medication or intervention. We’ve seen firsthand the impact that neurologically focused chiropractic care has had on our kids and our family, and we know without a doubt that we’ve been called to deliver that same neurologically focused care to the communities of northern Indianapolis.

Although our journey has been all over the country, Indiana has always been home. We grew up in Indiana and have known each other since 2001, all the way back in fourth grade. We’re thrilled to be in the northern Indianapolis area, calling this community our home!

Speaking of community, we’re extremely grateful to be in the Down Syndrome community as well. As proud members of The Lucky Few, Decklen is our “homie with an extra chromie,” who’s brought so much joy to our lives. We love being able to bring neurologically focused pediatric chiropractic care to the Down Syndrome community as well.

Our Team

Not only is our entire team highly trained in pediatric, prenatal, and family chiropractic care – our entire office is designed with each child and family in mind. Our sensory and special needs families will find our space open, inviting, and calming. If you’re currently expecting or have a new little one, we’ve got you covered with our mom’s room, stashed full of fresh diapers and wipes, changing tables, and so much more. If you’re bringing the whole crew with you (we hope you are!) we’ve got you covered with toys in every room to keep your kids happy and entertained, plus we’ve got an endless supply of snacks in case you forgot to grab 20 of them for each child yourself!

Dr. Michelle Coats

Hi, I’m Dr. Michelle! I’m a Webster & Pediatric Certified chiropractor. I’ve always loved working with babies and mamas and after becoming a mom myself I have even more dedication to helping families navigate the very challenging journey of pregnancy and raising healthy kids. Being a parent is hard, and in the world of health there is so much confusion and misinformation. My goal is to help families feel empowered in their health decisions while providing exceptional, brain-based chiropractic care.

My educational background started with a Bachelor of Science Degree here in Indianapolis at Butler University. I completed my Doctorate of Chiropractic degree at Life University in Marietta, Georgia. I continue to stay up to date in the latest pediatric chiropractic research and techniques by working with The Pediatric Experience and International Pediatric Chiropractic Association (ICPA). I have also trained extensively with Dr. Suzan Rossi, a chiropractor and nationally recognized expert in the Alternative Healing fields.

In my free time, I love being a wife and mom. Coffee and dark chocolate are some of the finer things in life! I’m always up for great conversation and learning new things. I can’t wait to meet you and your family!

Dr. Adam Coats

Hey, I’m Dr. Adam! I’m also a Webster & Pediatric Certified chiropractor. I’ve always loved working with kids, considering I still think of myself as a kid a lot of the time! Growing up I struggled with sensory processing, constant headaches & migraines, and a lack of focus & drive as a teenager. My parents did the best they could. But all they knew was the traditional medical model – take medications to alleviate symptoms. Knowing what I know now, I wish I would’ve had access to pediatric chiropractic back then because I know my childhood would’ve looked completely different. However, I’m grateful for that experience because it’s helped me understand and be able to relate to what a lot of families go through. Kids are struggling today more than ever and there’s so much information out there that it can be overwhelming and lead to confusion. My goal is to empower kids and families in their lives and their health decisions while providing exceptional, brain-based chiropractic care.

My educational background started with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science at Ball State University. I then completed my Doctorate of Chiropractic degree at Life University in Marietta, Georgia. I continue to train and stay up to date with the latest in pediatric chiropractic through The Pediatric Experience.

In my time outside of the office, I love being a dad! Good coffee is a necessity in life. If you’re not hiking and spending time in nature then you’re doing it wrong. I always take pickleball way too seriously, and I’m usually working on something to challenge myself physically and mentally (marathon, trail runs, etc.) I’m excited to meet you and your family and help your kids thrive!

Sam

Hey, I’m Sam! I am so excited to be a part of the Empowered Origins team as a Patient Care Advocate. Something that I value is living a holistic, healthy lifestyle. I always want to encourage and guide others in their journey as well!

Fun fact, I am originally from California! I moved to Indiana about 4 years ago after finishing up school at Boise State University. There, I studied psychology and nutrition/wellness, which is where my passion for health started to from. When I moved here, I learned the value of chiropractic care. My passion is teaching individuals that through chiropractic care the body can and will heal itself! I especially adore getting to see kids heal through chiropractic care. To see freedom and healing not only for them but for their family as well!

When I am not in the office I enjoy being active. Mentally and physically growing myself is a consistent habit in my life. Running, working out, walking my dog, and spending time in community is important to me. Coffee is something that I like learning about and drinking. You can find me at a local coffee shop more than at my own home. Even with all of that, I do enjoy slowing down and spending quality time with my family. Watching sports and having meals together are some ways we enjoy our time together.

I can’t wait to meet you and your kiddos in the office soon!

Kristin

Hi, I’m Kristin, and I’m honored to serve as a Care Advocate here at Empowered Origins. I grew up in Westfield, Indiana, very sports-focused, which shaped my appreciation for movement, discipline, and caring for the body. I went on to play collegiate softball at IUPUI, where I earned my degree in Health Sciences—an experience that deepened my passion for understanding the body as a whole.

My journey into holistic health continued as I became a Certified Integrative Health Coach, where I learned to value a truly whole-body, whole-life approach to wellness. I was introduced to Empowered Origins during my own pregnancy after a recommendation from my doulas at Signature Birth (they are truly amazing!), and it completely changed my perspective on healthcare. Neurologically focused chiropractic care played a pivotal role in my healthy pregnancy and birth—and I will absolutely shout its benefits from the rooftops.

As a Care Advocate, I’m here to support, educate, and walk alongside patients as they navigate their care. I’m deeply passionate about helping people understand the power of the nervous system and feel confident, empowered, and supported throughout their healing journey.

Outside of the office, I love being a mom and caring for my family, staying active, making things from scratch, and hosting craft nights with friends. I believe a holistic lifestyle is built in the everyday moments, and I’m grateful to be part of a practice that reflects those same values.

Danielle

Hey there, I’m Danielle! I am so excited to serve as a Care Advocate here at Empowered Origins, where I get the privilege to support children and families in their wellness journeys!

I earned my degree at Ball State University in 2011 and continued my education to transition into Elementary Education at Indiana Wesleyan University in 2015. Upon completing my licensure in education, I taught as a Title 1 teacher. I loved helping students learn to read, write, and build confidence at school and in their communities-an experience that sparked my passion for supporting children and
families.

My interest in holistic health and whole-body wellness began when I became a mother and realized how important it is to care for a growing child. To deepen my understanding of full body wellness, I completed over 500 hours of Yoga Teacher Training, including Prenatal Yoga. These experiences shaped my approach to wellness and continued to guide the way I support my family and community in creating balance
and healthy habits.

Outside of the office, you’ll usually find me taking walks, hiking, practicing yoga, spending time with my husband, two sons, daughter, and a boarder collie named Ziggy. I am a forever student, learning new hobbies, recipes, and different holistic approaches to health are my happy place, especially if there’s coffee or tea involved!
